Versatility Tournament is a successful start to Easter break

Despite the drop in temperature last Saturday, 54 netball players from around Gloucestershire turned out at All Saints Academy, Cheltenham for a leap into the unknown.

Gloucestershire Netball's Versatility Tournament saw seven mixed-club, mixed-position and mixed-ability teams take to the courts, with players in randomly selected positions.

As bibs were being drawn you could hear the good humoured moans and chuckles as players were challenged to play in positions they were not used to. The round robin tournament provided each team player with plenty of variety as subs were rotated on and positions changed at every break.

Gilly and Sue speechless after trip to Bahrain fundraising for Carly Taylor

Bahrain Netball League

Carly Taylor was paralysed in a freak accident in Truro on 5th November 2011 where she broke three vertebrae in her neck.

Gilly Salter and Sue Wainwright from Hucclecote Netball Club have just finished the last coaching session of a four-day visit to Bahrain. They were delivering coaching workshops at the DHL Bahrain Netball League, who have been fundraising for Carly Taylor's Trust Fund.

Carly Taylor, a former University of Gloucestershire student, was part of the Hucclecote Netball Club team that took part in both the 2008 and 2009 Intergulf Netball Championships held in Bahrain. Bahrain Netball, with their long-standing relationship with Hucclecote, were greatly moved by Carly's accident and have given Gilly and Sue a great welcome.

Tough competition at South West Regional Schools

Last Saturday saw the six winners and runners-up from the Gloucestershire County Schools tournaments travel down to the Regional Schools tournament in Bournemouth.

Competition was tough on a cold but dry day on the south coast, with the only one team from Gloucestershire making it through to the National Finals.
