Gloucestershire Netball is committed to increasing youth participation in Netball, whilst also providing a pathway for developing athletes through to a regional and national level.
The development of youth netball takes place in four areas:
- The county and its clubs run regular workshops for juniors. These range from primary to secondary school level and are primarily focussed on skills and having fun.
- The county runs a Junior League and tournaments with U12, U13, U14 and U16 sections. There is the opportunity for the best performing teams to progress to regional and national level competition.
- Through school, players can take part in High 5 netball in primary school, then in secondary school take part in the county round of the National Schools Tournament at U14, U16 and U19 level and the May Dent Tournament at U15 level. The best performing schools from the county round of the National Schools Tournament can progress to the regional round and then the national finals.
- Through the National Excel Pathway Programme. From U14 up to U21 level, the Excel Pathway is focussed on developing athletes and form the foundations to enable England Netball to be the Number 1 Ranked Team in the World.
