Vitality Netball Superleague franchise awarded to Gloucester and Worcester

Gloucestershire Netball is thrilled to announce that a professional netball team is coming to the county thanks to a successful joint bid by the University of Gloucestershire and the University of Worcester.

The new franchise will be called Severn Stars and is one of a number of new franchises in the Vitality Netball Superleague, announced by England Netball this week.

Gloucestershire and Worcester's successful bid followed an intensive application and selection process that attracted huge interest from netball clubs and businesses throughout the UK.

Head of School for Sport and Exercise at the University of Gloucestershire, Dr Anita Navin, has an outstanding reputation within the sport as a leading coach educator and is currently a commentator for Sky TV netball games.

Summer Netball Festival (16 - 25 year olds)

As part of England Netball's #Big Summer of Netball, Netball South West are hosting a Summer Festival exclusively for 16 – 25 year olds, details below:

When:     Tuesday 23rd August 2016

Where:    Dorcan Lesiure Centre & Netball Dome, St Paul's Drive, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN3 5BY

Who:       Teams across the south west region with players who are between the ages of 16 and 25 (inclusive). All standards welcome

Timings:  11am – 4pm

Cost:       £10 per team entry fee

What:     A fun, friendly summer festival. Teams will be pooled according to ability, prizes awarded to the winners, raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK

Coaching vacancies: Tigers Netball Club

Tigers NC are looking for a coach. They train at Bournside School 6.45-8.15pm every Wednesday.

They are happy to agree fees according to a coach's qualifications and experience.

New Rules Workshop 2016

These workshops are designed for umpires, coaches and players to learn about the rules changes, how they affect the application of rules and what the changes mean for players.

In addition, attending a workshop will be compulsory for all umpires in the county who wish to continue umpiring from September 2016. Clubs without an umpire should also send a representative.

The courses are limited to 45 places each, on a first-come first-served basis. Please complete a separate booking form per applicant. Payment is by internet bank transfer - details will be advised after you have booked.

Rockets sky high at regional league play-offs

Congratulations and well done to Challengers Rockets who secured a place in the south west's regional league division 3 for next season.  They won four of their matches and drew one against the top teams from other county leagues in the south west, at the regional league play-offs which were held at the University of the West of England in Bristol on Sunday 22nd May. 

They replace Gloucester Ladies who spent last season in RL3 and who will be back in Glos Prem next season.

Rockets will be joined in RL3 by Bristol Storm from the Avon League.
