Gloucester Talent & Performance athletes triumph over Bath

Gloucester and Bath Talent & Performance Centres

On Friday 16th November, athletes from the Gloucester Talent & Performance Centre headed down to King Edward School in Bath for an evening of match play against the Bath T&P group.

After 7 periods of 10 minutes Gloucester came out on top with the final score 38-31 to Glos.

It was a great evening which provided the athletes with valuable match play experience. The Bath players put up a hard fight but Glos just edged it demonstrating some exciting court play.

Head T&P Coach Katie Noonan named players Anna Martin and Paige Reed as players of the match. Anna showed strong defensive skills taking some impressive interceptions while Paige was consistent in her shooting, netting 12 out of her 17 attempts at goal.

Bath will be coming to Gloucester after Christmas for the re-match.

Katie would like to express her thanks to all parents who drove on the night and for the amazing support shown to the T&P athletes.

Back to Netball Festival is a Clash of the Counties

Back to Netball Festival

On Sunday 4th November, Back to Netball teams from across the north of the South West region came together to compete in Netball South West's first Regional Back to Netball Festival, with almost 70 ladies involved on the day.

A big congratulations to Gloucestershire-based Ciren Stars who finished second overall, behind Cougars from Avon.

Back to Netball T-shirts were awarded to a player in every team who demonstrated brilliant play, gamesmanship or great spirit – or all three! These were chosen by the umpires throughout the day. Netball South West and Team Bath kindly donated raffle prizes – each team brought along a prize too – and a total of £100 was raised for Cancer Research UK.

Rachel Bussey, Gloucestershire's Netball Development Officer, who helped run the festival, said:
“I was delighted with the interest and enthusiasm from the Back to Netball groups in the north of the region. There was a great atmosphere at the Festival and I have had some lovely feedback from the teams. I look forward to heading south and organising the festival there after Christmas.”

Officiating Update

The Gloucestershire Officiating Group is responsible for the education and training of umpires and officials. We are focused on trying to improve the standard of officiating at all of our Gloucestershire games, and beyond that, should umpires choose to officiate at a higher level.

As of October 2012, we are working with a number of umpires who are looking to improve their skills, either at their current level or by progressing to the next level. We've had a lot of interest from umpires this season, so please bear with us; we are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to get to everyone.

The breakdown of umpires who have asked for mentoring is:

  • Beginners 35
  • C Awards 21
  • B Awards 10

On 29th September Gilly Salter and Katie Noonan headed over to Jersey to coach the Islands Satellite and County Academies. The Gloucestershire coaches touched down in sunny Jersey bright and early on the Saturday and headed straight to Les Ormes, Jersey’s brand new netball facility, near St Brelade. Here they delivered a three hour session to the Satellite Academy. The session also provided a chance for Jersey coaches to see first-hand, new coaching concepts and practices from England Netball.

Sunday was another beautiful day and again Gilly and Katie headed to Les Ormes for their second session with the Islands talented youngsters. The Jersey County Academy athletes were put through their paces with a high intensity ball skills and decision making session. After the two and a half hour session many girls likened it to ‘Netball brain training’.
