Thrilling Per Ardua and Bateman Shield Finals

Upton vs Randwick (photo credit: Patrick Sullivan)

Last Saturday saw four teams clash in the finals of Gloucestershire's Bateman Shield and Per Ardua competitions, held at Bentham Country Club. Throughout these knockout competitions teams have started with initial handicaps based on their league positions, and the finals were no exception.

First it was Upton Ladies who faced an uphill struggle against Randwick C for the Per Ardua title, then later an all-Hucclecote encounter in the Bateman with Hucclecote Lightning battling Hucclecote Thunder.

Both matches were played with great competitive spirit - a great advertisement for netball in Gloucestershire. We look forward to welcoming all four teams to our Presentation Evening next month to receive their trophies.

Per Ardua: Upton Ladies 66 - Randwick C 59
Bateman: Hucclecote Lightning 60 - Hucclecote Thunder 59 (Golden Goal)

Officiating round-up: A successful season for umpires

This season has been a hugely successful one for umpires in Gloucestershire, with no less than 32 passes overall! The Officiating group would like to congratulate all our newly qualified umpires and thank them for all the hard work they have put in to achieving their new status.

We are especially pleased with our eight new passes at B award, which takes the county's tally of B award and above qualified umpires to 16. This is unprecedented in the county's history!

By way of acknowledgement we list below all those umpires who have passed an award this season. You will also notice some names appearing twice, representing those umpires who have passed both Beginner and C award within the same season - a credit to their determination.
